Basic information La Chaux-de-Fonds
La Chaux-de-Fonds – in the heart of the "Watch Valley", cradle of the global watchmaking industry – is said to be the only true New Art center in Switzerland. Easy to reach (15 minutes by car or 30 minutes by train from Neuchâtel), La Chaux-de-Fonds is the birthplace of such luminaries as architect Le Corbusier, automobile pioneer Louis Chevrolet, and author Blaise Cendrars. This picturesque town, embedded in the contrasting and beautifully preserved Jura mountain landscape, is a popular base for cross-country skiers, hikers and mountain bikers.
